Early life and education
Gina was raised as a single child in Auckland by her Jewish parents – her father was of Russian descent and was a small store owner, and her mother who was of Polish descent was working as a nurse at a local hospital. The two were living in England long before Gina was born, and then moved to New Zealand in the late ‘50s. In 1977 when Gina was 11, the family moved back to England, and Gina studied at Rosh Pinah Primary school and then at the Jewish Free School in London.
She became interested in acting while attending high school, as she was a member of the school’s drama club and appeared in most plays performed there. Upon matriculation in 1984, she didn’t enroll at a college but rather decided to pursue her career as an actress.
Roles in TV series
Gina actually made her debut TV series appearance when she portrayed Christine in the episode “Phantom” of the children’s series “Into the Labyrinth” in 1982. In 1984, she appeared in two episodes of another children’s series – “Grange Hill” – and then portrayed Carmen in a single episode of the critically acclaimed sitcom “Only Fools and Hoses”, and Greta in the anthology drama series “Screen Two” in 1989.
She was invited to play the recurring character Blackeyes in four episodes of the miniseries “Blackeyes”, and then appeared in single episodes of several series such as “The Storyteller” in 1991, “Little Napoleons” in 1994, and “Scene” in 1996.
Gina gained recognition after she was invited to portray the lead character, Jane Christie in the romantic comedy series “Coupling”, which also starred Jack Davenport and Sarah Alexander and which follows six friends who are all searching for love and sex. Gina was shooting for it from 2000 to 2004, and as well as appearing in the TV series “Waking the Dead” in 2003, then “The Last Detective” in 2005, and “Hotel Babylon” in 2007.
She was praised for her portrayal of Claire Jackman when she appeared in six episodes of the drama “Jekyll” in 2007, and was then invited to guest star as Traci Reed in “Nearly Famous” in the same year, Catherine Carteaux in “Heroes and Villains”, and Jill in “The Wrong Doctor” in 2008.

She made her debut film appearance in the epic historical drama “King David” in 1985, and many roles followed such as those in “Mussolini: The Untold Story”, “Secret Friends” in 1991, and “Vsetko co mam rad” in 1993.
She was praised for her portrayal of Lisa in the comedy movie “Leon the Pig Farmer” which starred Mark Frankel, Janet Suzman and Brian Glover, about a Jewish man living in London who finds out that he was born through artificial insemination.
In 1993, Gina played Sandra in “Horse Opera” and then appeared in “Silent Trigger” in 1996 and David” in 1997. The year 2000 saw her win supporting roles in three movies “Ted & Ralph”, “Paranoid”, and “Seven Days to Live” before she was invited to star as the Junkie Spirit in the drama musical “Subterrain”, directed and written by Rupert Wyatt and which starred Jamie Harris, John Challis and Michelle Gomez – it follows Poster Paster who is visited by a spirit of a dead man.
Some of Gina’s latest roles in movies have been in “Sitting Ducks” in 2003, “Zerophilia” in 2005, and “Permanent Vision” in 2007.
She made her debut theatre appearance in 1990, playing Janet Weiss in “The Rocky Horror Show” performed at the Piccadilly Theatre, and in 1998 portrayed Imogen in “Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle, and Dick” performed at the National Theatre. Gina played Karen in “Speed the Plow” at the Duke of York’s Theatre in 2000, before acting as the Italian Lady in “From Morning to Midnight” at the National Theatre in 2013. Love life and relationships
Gina met the Colombian singer and songwriter Lucho Brieva in 2002, started dating within days of being introduced by a mutual friend, and in July 2005 they married at a modest ceremony attended by their closest friends and family. However, Gina and Lucho stayed together for just two years before divorcing in 2007, then in 2009 she gave birth to her daughter Romy, whose father is Zaab Sethna. Zaab and Gina married in 2013.
Zaab is a businessman who obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University, and his Master’s degree from Columbia University in the City of New York in 1990.
He then launched his career by joining The Rendon Group, Inc., working as their consultant until September 2000. He became the Director of Communications at Iraqi National Congress in September 2000 before becoming an Adviser to the Government of Iraq in April 2003. From April 2006 to January 2008, Zaab worked as Managing Director at Global Positioning LLC leaving in January 2008 when he became a partner at Northern Gulf Partners, and he has been with them for over 12 years now.

As she has stated: ‘I don’t understand happy people. How can you just be satisfied?’ Her main hobby is travelling and she has been to several US states such as California, Arizona and New York, and has visited many European countries including France, Germany and Croatia among others. She is a lover of animals and has a pet dog, while her favorite ‘animals’ are parrots and turtles. She likes to dance and sing and can dance a variety of styles including contemporary and salsa.
