Liza Snyder was born in Northampton, Massachusetts USA, on 20 March 1968 – her zodiac sign is Pisces and she holds American nationality. Liza is an actress perhaps still best known for her portrayal of Officer Molly Whelan in the romantic comedy movie “Sirens” which aired in 1994, and which starred Hugh Grant, Tara Fitzgerald and Sam Neill. It is about a minister and his wife who go to visit the artist of a blasphemous painting, only to find out that he is living with three sexy models. The film won Hugh Grant a Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Actor, while it was nominated for three Australian Film Institute Awards.

Early life and education

Liza was raised as an only child in Northampton by her father, who was teaching theatre at Smith College, and her mother who is a singer and a songwriter. Liza was inspired to pursue her acting career by her maternal grandmother, Betty Furness, who was an actress and a reporter, while Betty’s husband Johnny Green won five Academy Awards for his achievements as a music composer.

Liza started acting while attending elementary school, as she was a member of the school’s drama club and appeared in several plays performed at school. She went on to attend a local high school, where she continued acting and played a variety of sports such as soccer and tennis.

Upon matriculation in 1986, she enrolled at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York, studying under Sanford Meisner, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting in 1990.

Career as an actress

After two years of working as a waitress to financially support herself, while attending auditions for roles in both movies and TV series, she appeared in the episode “Double Bind” of the drama series “The Trials of Rosie O’Neill” in 1992, which starred Sharon Gless, Ron Rifkin and Georgann Johnson, and is about Rosie who is working in Los Angeles as a public defender, and her colleagues Ben, Hank and Carole. The series was a hit, winning three awards including a Golden Globe, and was nominated for 10 others.

In the same year, Liza guest starred as Claire in the episode “A Tale of Two Houses” of the sitcom “Down the Shore”, which starred Louis Mandylor and Anna Gunn, and is about a vacation house on New Jersey Shore visited by a variety of people.

The year 1994 saw Liza portray Jeannine Bonelli in a single episode of the critically acclaimed crime drama series “Murder, She Wrote”, which starred Angela Lansbury and William Windom and which was a huge hit winning 34 awards including six Golden Globes between 1984 and 1996, while it was nominated for 55 other awards.

In 1996, she guest starred in the episode “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” of the medical drama series “Chicago Hope”, before playing the supporting character Angela Hennis in the four-hour long crime drama movie “Innocent Victims”, which starred Ricky Schroder and John Corbett, and is about three lawyers who are trying to save the man who was wrongfully accused of murdering three people, and was sentenced to death. Liza also played a supporting character in the crime drama thriller movie “Search for Sarah”, which starred Patty Duke and Richard Crenna and is a true story of Sarah Porter who disappeared, and as the police weren’t interested in searching for her, her own parents acted on their own.

The year 1997 saw Liza star as Rebecca Santori in the episode “Repeat Offenders” of the crime drama series “Pacific Blue”, which starred Jim Davidson, Paula Trickey, and Darlene Vogel and is the story of two bicycle officers working in Santa Monica, California. The series counted five seasons and 101 episodes, and won Mario Lopez a nomination for an Alma Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.

Liza’s next important role was in 1998, when she was invited to portray the lead character Linda in the sitcom “Jesse”, also starring Christina Applegate and Jennifer Milmorem and is about a single mother who falls in love with Diego, while her father is against the relationship. The series was a hit, winning 13 awards including a Golden Globe, and was nominated for six others.

She portrayed Michelle in the drama movie “Pay It Forward” in 2000, before being cast as the main character Christine Hughes in the sitcom “Yes, Dear”, which also starred Anthony Clark and Jean Louisa Kelly, and is about two couples who have rather different views on raising children. Liza was shooting for it until the series ended in 2006 after six seasons and 122 episodes – it won three awards and was nominated for four others including a Primetime Emmy.

Liza then went on hiatus for five years, and came back in 2011 when she was invited to guest star as Vanessa in the episode “Transplant” of the medical drama “House”.

In 2013, she played Christine Hughes from “Yes, Dear” once again in the sitcom “Raising Hope”, while she played her latest role – the lead character Andi Burns – from 2016 to 2020 in the sitcom “Man with a Plan”. The series also starred Matt Cook and Matt LeBlanc and it is about a father who realizes parenting is not as easy as he believed, when his wife returns to work. The series won a single award in 2017 – a People’s Choice Award, USA for Favorite New TV Comedy.

Love life and husband

Liza has been keeping the details of her love life hidden from the media’s attention since the launch of her acting career, but there are rumors circulating the internet that the actress was once in a relationship with Mike O’Malley, an American actor and writer, born in 1966.

The two were seen spending time together on several occasions, and when the rumors began spreading about them having an affair, Liza and Mike didn’t comment but weren’t seen together again after that. Mike is today married and living in Los Angeles with his wife Lisa and their three children.

There were also rumors that Liza was dating Matt LeBlanc, but these soon turned out to be false as both Matt and Liza addressed the rumors stating they were just good friends. The two have known each other for over 20 years, even before Matt became famous after he starred in the critically acclaimed sitcom “Friends”.

Liza is today single, hasn’t married, and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Liza is a fan of classic cars, and has a few which can be seen in front of her home in Los Angeles – one of her favorites among these is a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback.

She is a lover of animals, and has three pet dogs while she also has a pet cat. Liza is a philanthropist, who has worked with several charity organizations which have the goal of helping underprivileged children, while she is a huge supporter of foster care, and has spoken on several occasions about how important it is for children to find good foster families.

Liza likes to watch movies and TV series in her spare time, and some of her favorite actors and actresses are Matt LeBlanc, Tom Hanks and Anne Hathaway, while some of her favorite movies are “The Terminal”, “Saving Private Ryan”, and “Les Miserables”. Her favorite TV series are “Friends” and “The Third Rock from the Sun”.
