Park Overall was born in Nashville, Tennessee USA, on 15 March 1957 – her zodiac sign is Pisces and she holds American nationality. She is an actress as well as a fighter for women’s rights, perhaps best known for having portrayed Laverne Higby Todd Kane in the comedy series “Empty Nest” which aired from 1988 to 1995, and starred Richard Mulligan, Dinah Manoff and David Leisure. It follows Harry Weston, a widowed pediatrician, and his daughters Carol and Barbara. The series won eight awards including a Golden Globe, and was nominated for 17 others.

Park is alive and well living in Tennessee, but it appears that she’s retired from everything.

Childhood and education

Park was raised in Greeneville, Tennessee by her mother Frances who was teaching English at a local high school, and her father Thomas Wesley ‘Jack’ Overall, Jr., who was a federal magistrate. She became interested in acting at a very young age, although her parents were pushing her into studying law. After Park enrolled at a public high school in Greeneville, she joined the school’s drama club and appeared in most of the plays performed there. She continued her education at Tusculum University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 1979, and then studied for one semester at the University of Tennessee.

Park worked several jobs after graduation, such as waitressing and teaching English at elementary schools, then when she turned 28, she moved to New York where she was hoping to win her first acting roles. She started appearing in off-off-Broadway plays, including “Skin”, and then made her debut film appearance in 1987, portraying Lucky Kreshaw in the short comedy “The Line”, which starred Cecilia Garcia, Brian George and Lou Hancock. This was followed by her portrayal of Marion in the comedy thriller movie “Tainted” in 1988.

She then portray a supporting character in the comedy drama film “Biloxi Blues”, which starred Matthew Broderick and Christopher Walken, and was about a group of boys who are going through boot camp in Biloxi during World War II.

In the same year, she played Jane in the romantic adventure comedy “Vibes”, which starred the famous actress and singer Cyndi Lauper.

Park was invited to act as Connie in the biographical crime thriller movie “Mississippi Burning”, which starred Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe, and which follows two FBI Agents who are investigating the possible kidnapping or murder of several civil rights activists. The series won 16 awards including an Oscar, and was nominated for 24 others. Two of the next movies in which Park appeared were the drama “Talk Radio” and the independent movie “Lost Angels”.

She appeared in the comedy movie “Kindergarten Cop” in 1990, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, and then portrayed Melody O’Rourke in the western film “The Luck of the Draw” in 1991. The year 1993 saw Park win supporting roles in several movies such as the psychological thriller “The Vanishing”, the drama “House of Cards”, and the comedy “Undercover Blues”. She was cast in her first lead role as Evie Spangler in the drama “Fifteen and Pregnant”, about how Tina and her family are handling the fact that she is 15 and pregnant. After being praised for her performance, Park went on to star in “The Price of a Broken Heart” and “Sparkler” in 1999.

Park accused Champion International, a paper company, for throwing their waste into the Pigeon River in North Carolina, as tests showed that the river had extremely high levels of dioxins, which allegedly led to people contrating cancer and dying. She tried improving the safety measures which the Nuclear Fuel Services offers, while she also managed to stop the build of a uranium enrichment facility in Erwin, which was then built in New Mexico. In 2014, she fought against the construction of the 19km-long pipeline which would have brought the water from the Nolichucky River to the USA Nitrogen plant in Mosheim, Tennessee.

On 4 April 2012 as a member of the Democratic Party, she opposed Bob Corker from the Republican Party, and lost after having gathered below 15 percent of votes. She is a supporter of the LGBT population (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) and she celebrated when President Obama accepted the law which allows gay marriage.

Park is also keen on watching movies based on true events, and some of her favorite actors and actresses are Will Smith, Mark Harmon and Sandra Bullock, while some of her favorite movies are “The Pursuit of Happyness”, “After the Promise”, and “Green Book”.
