Who is David Justice?

David Christopher Justice was born on 14 April 1966, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, and is a former professional baseball player, best known for his career in Major League Baseball (MLB) in which he played mostly as an outfielder or a designated hitter. Some of the teams he played for during his career include the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and the New York Yankees.

The Riches of David Justice

As of early-2020, David Justice’s net worth is estimated to be over $40 million, earned largely through a successful career in professional baseball. He played in the MLB for 13 years, and earned numerous lucrative contracts from the teams he played with.

He’s also done a bit of television work, which has contributed to his income.

Early Life, Education, and Career Beginnings

At a young age, David showed promise on numerous fronts, excelling in his academics while also showcasing his athletic abilities; due to his talent, he was able to skip two grades of primary school. He attended Covington Latin School in Kentucky, and became a member of the school’s basketball team, in which he broke the record for all-time leading scorer of the school.

His achievements in basketball led him to be offered a scholarship at Thomas More College in Kentucky, where he took up a course in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology.

After completing his degree, he didn’t pursue a career in professional basketball, but instead looked to professional baseball, a sport he was interested in since he was a child. He entered the MLB draft and was selected by the Atlanta Braves. After two years, he made his major league debut, replacing Dale Murphy who had been traded to the Philadelphia Phillies.

A Successful Baseball Career

During his debut season in 1990, Justice quickly became a star, and won the National League’s Rookie of the Year Award with 28 home runs. He continued making a name for himself the following year, as he helped his team rise to the top of the division, though his performance was hampered by a nagging back injury.

Despite that, he was able to help his team reach the World Series. After a year of sub-par performance due to his injury, he bounced back in 1993 and finished third in the Most Valuable Player (MVP) voting, behind Barry Bonds and Lenny Dykstra.

After the 1994 MLB strike, he returned to play the following year and helped the Braves get to the World Series once more. This time, he was in good condition but drew the ire of fans after making a comment against them for the lack of support they were giving. Despite that, he got a crucial home run in the sixth game of the series that helped them win the championship.

With a World Series under his belt, he was expected to perform even better the following year, but his season ended abruptly after he suffered a shoulder separation injury.

Later Baseball Career

In 1997, just before the season started, David was traded to the Cleveland Indians with Marquis Grissom. He continued to excel, and helped his new team get to the World Series. In the next few years, he continued with solid performances, though not as strong as during his time with the Braves. In 2000, he was traded to the New York Mets before getting sent to the Oakland Athletics. He was considered an experiment with the Athletics, who were trying out new strategies. Following his one year with the team, he opted to retire.

While he had a successful professional baseball career, he was also excelling on other fronts, and was even featured in “People” magazine in which named him one of the Most Beautiful People of the year. He was later inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Atlanta Braves, as he was a part of many championship competing lineups with them. In 2007, The Mitchell Report published an article reporting him for the possible use of performance-enhancing drugs, one that has denied in the past. Despite that, the report may have been the reason that he became ineligible for the MLB Hall of Fame as he only got one vote, eliminating him from any future discussions.

Life After MLB

After retiring from the sport, Justice was hired by the sports network ESPN, or Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, as a commentator for professional baseball sportscasts for two years. After his two year run there, he then moved to the YES Network, for which he mainly did coverage of the New York Yankees in a studio setting. The network is known for its close ties to the Yankees, due to being in the same ownership.

He also contributed articles to the network’s website, and hosted the program “Yankees on Deck”. He took a significantly lesser role there in 2007, and after his home was destroyed by the wildfires in California, he never returned to the network.

In 2011, he was portrayed by actor Stephen Bishop in the film “Moneyball”, which starred Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. The film is based on the book “Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game” and talks about the Athletics and their manager Billy Beane who implemented a statistical method to recruiting talent, leading to a change in the world of professional baseball.

Personal Life

In 1992, David married actress Halle Berry after being in a relationship for a few years. She was once one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, winning the Academy Award for best actress and appearing in numerous high profile films.

These include playing the role of Storm in the “X-Men” film franchise, and recently appearing in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”. The couple resided in Sandy Springs, Georgia, and stayed together for four years before separating. They divorced a year later, and Berry even filed for a restraining order against him.

A few years later, he met businesswoman Rebecca Villalobos, who was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Exotic Spices Calendars. The two married in 2001 and they have three children together. The family was featured in an episode of “Celebrity Wife Swap”, in which his wife developed an interest in acting.

He won the World Wrestling All-Stars (WWA) World Heavyweight Championship once, WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice, and WCW US Heavyweight Championship five times.

Education and early life

Lex was raised in Buffalo by his mother and father, but rarely speaks about his parents in public, respecting their privacy; he hasn’t mentioned the siblings whom he might have, so many of Lex’s fans believe that he’s an only child.

He studied at a local high school in Orchard Park, New York State, and was mostly into playing football during his four years there; Lex showed talent, and upon matriculating in 1976 was offered a football scholarship to Pennsylvania State University; he moved to the University of Miami after only a year, and there played both football and basketball.

Lex was kicked out of the Miami Hurricanes in 1978, for the incident when he trashed his hotel room, and he thus dropped out of college.

Career as a Football Player

Lex launched his career by playing for the Montreal Alouettes competing in the Canadian Football League, then spent the year 1981 signed to the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL), but didn’t actually play for them in any games.

He then spent some time playing for the Tampa Bay Bandits, Jacksonville Bulls and Memphis Showboats of the US Football League, before retiring from professional football in 1984.

Career as a wrestler

Lex launched his wrestling career in 1985, when he signed with Championship Wrestling Florida (CWF), and chose ‘Lex Luger’ as his ring name, after the supervillain Alexander Joseph ‘Lex’ Luthor.

Lex won his first match on 31 October 1985, defeating Cocoa Samoa, and the following month saw him beat Wahoo McDaniel to become the Southern Heavyweight Champion. He faced the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair on 1 September 1986, and the match ended in a draw.

Lex signed with JCP in 1987, and became a member of the stable The Four Horsemen; he became the NWA US Heavyweight Champion on 11 July 1987 by defeating Nikita Koloff, but lost it to Dusty Rhodes in November of the same year. Lex quit The Four Horsemen on 2 December, and then teamed up with Barry Windham in their tag team The Twin Towers; the duo won the NWA World Tag Team Championship on 27 March 1988, however, Barry then joined The Four Horsemen and turned against Lex. JCP was sold in November 1988, and renamed to WCW.

Lex became the NWA US Heavyweight Champion by defeating Barry Windham in 1989, and became the WCW World Heavyweight Champion in 1991.

He left WCW and signed a contract with World Bodybuilding Federation (WBF) in 1992, but the organization was soon closed; Lex then signed with WWF in 1993, and chose ‘The Narcissist’ as his persona. His first WWF match was a win against Larry Lunden on 25 January 1993, and he then feuded with Mr. Perfect, defeating him at WrestleMania IX.

He feuded with Ludvig Borga in the second half of 1993, and then with Tatanka in 1994. Lex and Davey Boy Smith formed their tag team The Allied Powers in January 1995, but lost to Owen Hart and Yokozuna in a WWF Tag Team Championship match.

Lex returned to WCW in August 1995, and together with Sting won the World Tag Team Championship on 22 January 1996; he became the WCW World Television Champion on 17 February 1996, but lost the title a day later. He remained with WCW until 2001, when he signed with WWA, while the year 2003 saw him sign with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

He then steadily ‘began retiring’; Lex quit Total Nonstop in 2004, returning to it briefly in both 2006 and 2012. Since 2011, he’s been working for WWE behind the scenes on their Wellness Policy.

Love life and wife

Lex hasn’t shared many details about his love life, but it’s known that he was a married man.

He and non-celebrity American Peggy Fulbright wed in 1979, split sometime in the mid-‘90s, but their divorce wasn’t finalized until 2003. Peggy gave birth to their son Brian on 1 January 1986, and their daughter Lauren Ashley followed on 24 September 1990.

In 1999, Lex began dating American professional wrestler Elizabeth Ann Hulette – aka Miss Elizabeth; he struck her in their garage on 19 April 2003, and Miss Elizabeth was left with two bruised eyes and a cut lip. Lex was charged with one count of battery, and was arrested for driving under the influence two days later. Lex and Miss Elizabeth’s relationship ended on 1 May 2003, when she died after mixing Alprazolam, hydrocodone and vodka. While investigating her death, the police found Lex in possession of several illegal substances, and he was charged with 13 counts of drug possession.

There are no other women whom Lex has been with, that his fans know about; he seems to be unattached as of April 2023, was married to Peggy Fulbright, and has two children with her.

Interesting facts and health issues

Lex suffered a serious injury on 19 October 2007, when left with temporary paralysis after a spinal stroke; his condition has since deteriorated, and he’s been in a wheelchair since 2021.

Who is Naomi Osaka’s father? Leonard Francois’ Biography

Published

on

Leonard Francois is the father of Naomi Osaka, the professional tennis player, who best Serena Williams in the 2018 US Open Final. He’s dedicated many years of his life working as a tennis coach for his daughters, Mari and Naomi.

Early life and family

Leonard Max Francois was born in the US, though he is of Haitian descent. His parents spoke only Creole, as they didn’t even know English. Leonard spent his youth in New York, eventually as a student of New York University. It was then when he met the love of his life and the future mother of his daughters, Tamaki Osaka. During one of his vacations from his studying, Leonard went to one of the Japanese islands, among them Hokkaido, where he met Tamaki, and soon understood that he wanted to proceed with a relationship with her.

Tamaki’s Japanese family accused her of dating a black man and bringing disgrace to the whole family, however, Leonard was not afraid of proving he was a good match for his Japanese girlfriend, so after graduating from University, he moved to Osaka, Japan, to live there with Tamaki and to be near her family to show them he was good enough.

Career

Leonard decided to go in for tennis coaching in 1999, when he saw the Williams sisters performing at the French Open tournament. Both his daughters were toddlers those days, but Leonard’s decision was made. He was amazed by their victory in the doubles, and swore to do everything he could to make his daughters the team of the Williams’ kind. Leonard was also encouraged by the fact that the coach of the Williams’ sisters, their father Richard Williams, played no tennis at all in his entire life, although Leonard played tennis quite a lot.

Leonard’s younger daughter, Naomi Osaka, later admitted that the style of their upbringing at the courts was very similar to the one Serena and Venus Williams got from their father. Just as Serena once mentioned that nobody beaten her like Venus did, Naomi also shared that her older sister Mari was her toughest opponent. Leonard later found another coach for both of his daughters, for them to improve their playing level. Leonardo never forgot where he came from, so in 2000 he and his wife built an elementary school in Haiti, which Naomi later visited in 2019. He does a lot of charitable work, helping various funds to develop sports classes for children from low-income families.

Elder daughter, Mari Osaka

Leonard’s elder daughter, Mari Osaka, was born on 3 April 1996, in Osaka Japan. From an early age she was trained in tennis by her father.

She also likes drawing and often shares her pictures and sketches on her Instagram account. She also posts videos of her daily training routine, showing various interesting devices and gadgets which help her to practice and develop the speed, reaction and other skills important for a professional tennis player. Mari’s coach is now Maxime Kouyaté; he took her to the finals of The McLeod for Health Florence Open in 2018. Mari started participating in professional tennis tournaments in 2014, entering Bank of the West Classic, when she partnered Marina Shamayko in the doubles, however, they lost to Ajla Tomljanović and Varvara Lepchenko. Mari then could be seen participating at the 2019 Miami Open, when she played singles by receiving a wildcard into the main draw.

Mari likes travelling; her favorite destinations are Tokyo, Japan, and Paris, France. She likes dogs.

She suffers a lot from many people comparing her to her younger sister who is more successful than Mari; however, she learns how to deal with it, not being depressed and developing her own career and achievements.

Younger daughter, Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka was born on 16 October 1997, in Chūō-ku, Osaka Japan. The questions that she is more than tired of answering is ‘Why is her surname the same as the town she was born in?’: ‘We’re recycling a joke from 2014! Everyone who was born in Osaka, their last name is Osaka’, she joked in her interview to Washington Post in 2018. When Naomi was three years old, her family moved to Long Island, then to Florida, when she was around nine years old. Naomi started playing tennis along with her elder sister, Mari. She worked hard and dreamt of playing against the Williams sisters.

At the age of 15 Naomi started working at the ISP Academy, being coached by Patrick Tauma, then in 2014 with the Harold Solomon Tennis Academy, and then moved to the ProWorld Tennis Academy, improving her skills and getting more opportunities to achieve success.

Naomi won her first WTA Tour match when she was only 16 years old, and became a sensation in the world of sports after beating Serena Williams at the US Open in 2018, while being ranked seventh in the world at that moment. The New Yorker called her ‘the next best player in the world’. In 2019 Naomi won the Australian Open, beating Petra Kvitová, the Czech professional tennis player, in three sets. The same tournament in 2020 was not as successful as Naomi expected it to be, as she lost to Coco Gauff, the American professional tennis player, in the third round.

Controversy around Naomi’s win at the US Open

‘We will never know whether young Osaka really won the 2018 US Open or had it handed to her by a man who was going to make Serena Williams feel his power’, wrote the columnist from the Washington Post, Sally Jenkins. Indeed, the situation which took place during the match between Naomi Osaka and her biggest idol and inspiration, Serena Williams, was outstanding. The Portuguese umpire Carlos Ramos, who served as the chair umpire at the match, gave Serena three code violations. She accused him of stealing the point from her, insisting she was not getting coaching during the match. She also accused him of sexism and racism, but in the end she had to pay the penalty fees for her violations.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BpNrlWdgcXo/

Naomi won the game, and the audience was arguing if it was her skill which helped her, or the situation about Serena, which made the latter lose both her temper and the game. At the end of the game Serena congratulated Naomi and looked friendly, smiling at Osaka. However, her true feeling about the game were in fact the opposite, yet not directed at Naomi.

Personal life, wife Tamaki Osaka

Leonard has never separated from his wife, Tamaki Osaka who is a school teacher, since the day they married in 1989. According to the laws of Japan, his daughters took their mother’s surname; the law is also known as Koseki, ie the Japanese Family Registration Law. It says the foreign spouse must join the koseki of his Japanese spouse, and all of their children are to be registered under the surname of the Japanese spouse.

Hobbies, favorite things and interesting facts

Leonard is an avid fan of many kinds of sports, so he spends a lot of time playing tennis and beach volleyball, swimming, etc. He also likes watching basketball matches. Leonard spends a lot of time with his parents, who still live in New York.

Appearance, clothing style

Leonard has black hair and dark brown eyes. His height, weight and vital statistics are not available at the moment, but judging by his photos with his daughter Naomi, who is 5ft 10ins (1.78m) tall, he is a bit shorter than her.

Net worth and salary

As of 2020, Leonard’s net worth is still not reported officially. However, his daughter Naomi Osaka has a net worth estimated at over $29 million.
