Robert Michael Iler was born in New York City USA, on 2 March 1985, so his zodiac sign is Pisces and he holds American nationality. He is an actor, podcaster, and a poker player, who gained recognition after portraying A. J. Soprano in the crime drama series “The Sopranos”, which starred James Gandolfini, Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco, and which is about Tony Soprano who is a mob boss in New Jersey, and who seeks to find a psychiatrist after his problems at home and at work get the best of him.

Robert was shooting for it from 1999 to 2007 when the series ended, and in 1999 and 2000 he won a Hollywood Reporter Young Star Award for the Best Young Actor/Performance in a Drama Television Series as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award for an Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series together with his colleagues.

Robert made his latest appearance on TV in 2009 – it appears that he is currently focused on playing poker.

Early life and education

Robert was raised a single child in New York City by his father who was a lawyer, and his mother who was an accountant.

When he was six, Robert was walking with his father around New York City when he was noticed by Jeff Mitchell of J. Mitchell Management, who asked Robert if he would like to appear in a Pizza Hut commercial.

In the following four years Robert was focused on studying, but at the age of ten appeared in his first movie, and in many commercials, such as for ESPN, IBM, and VH1 among others. He practiced acting at high school as he was a member of the school’s drama club, while he was also involved in a local theatre. Upon matriculation, Robert didn’t enroll at a college but rather focused on his acting career.

Robert portrayed Denny Harley in the drama movie “The Tic Code” in 1999, which starred Chris Marquette, Polly Draper and Carol Kane, and which follows a boy who is dreaming about becoming a famous jazz pianist. In 2002, Robert appeared as a Game Show Contestant in the episode “Famous Last Words” of the crime drama series “Oz”, which starred Ernie Hudson and J. K. Simmons, and which follows the story of a strange prison and the people serving their sentences inside it.

In 2002 Robert was cast to portray Charlie in the romantic comedy movie “Tadpole”, which starred Sigourney Weaver and Bebe Neuwirth, and which follows a 15-year old boy who has a crush on his stepmother.

In 2003, Robert played a side character in the superhero movie “Daredevil”, which had Ben Affleck play Matt Murdock, a blind attorney and the superhero Daredevil.

In 2004 Robert appeared in the episode “Mean” of the crime drama series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, and in the episode “Cycle of Violence” of the science fiction series “The Dead Zone”. Some of his latest appearances have been in the sitcom “Four Kings” in 2006, and the police procedural drama “Law & Order” in 2009.

Today, Robert is ‘working’ as a professional poker player – on 23 October 2005, he was playing underground poker at the Ace Point club when the police raided the place but Robert didn’t face any charges.

Robert started drinking alcohol and taking drugs while still attending high school, and when he was done shooting for “The Sopranos” and suffered an anxiety attack, a friend of his recommended Xanax to treat it. Robert became addicted to Xanax, taking it every day for the following six years while he also combined other things with it such as alcohol, Percocet (acetaminophen), and cocaine.

In the summer of 2001, he was arrested after he threatened two Brazilian tourists with a gun until they gave him some money. In court Robert pleaded guilty, and was put on probation for three years.

On 2 March 2013 while celebrating his 28th birthday, Robert took too much MDMA, and after an awful experience decided to stay away from drugs and alcohol, and has been sober to this day.

Love life and relationships

Robert has been keeping the details of his love life hidden from the media’s curiosity, but he was seen with his girlfriend Edith Capone at Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s 21st birthday party on 15 May 2002. Jamie starred alongside Robert in “The Sopranos”, and she invited him and his girlfriend to the party. Just two months later on 16 July 2002, the two were seen at the world premiere of the fifth season of the series “Sex and the City”. Rumor has it that Robert and Edith have been together for over 18 years without marrying or having any children, while it is also suggested that they broke up sometime along the way.

There have also been rumors circulating the internet that the popular actor might be gay, as he hasn’t been seen in public with any women in recent years, while some of his fans have even claimed to have seen him being rather too close to a male friend.

Robert was physically active until he started taking drugs and drinking alcohol, which is when his weight increased. He weighed 180lbs (81kgs) before he decided to try the Atkins diet, dropping his weight down to 155lbs (70kgs) in three months. He continued to lose weight, and started having several training sessions at the gym, thus his somewhat muscular body today. Robert likes summer, as he is keen on spending his free time at Miami beaches, and enjoys surfing and swimming.

He is a lover of animals and has a pet dog, while he is allergic to cats.
